Meet Micah!
After graduating from grad school and landing my first real job, I adopted this clever, handsome boy from a rescue in July 2007. He had had a pretty rough summer, between losing his former family, catching a bad case of kennel cough and bouncing around from streets to the Carson City shelter to the rescue vet's kennel. Despite all this, Micah was an absolute gem — affectionate, trusting, very "velcro," and super intelligent. However, Micah was very nervous around other people and new situations, needed a refresher on housetraining and obedience, and really needed TLC and attention.
The rescue advised me to consider some sort of midday walking and interaction. And so the search for a walker I could trust began ...
Enter Big Sky Dogs! I have been so impressed by Milena, our usual walker. She is incredibly kind and gentle with Micah, who warmed up to her very quickly. She also helped reinforce important behaviors with him from day one, such as a sit-stay before opening the door — a real boon when you live on a busy street! When Milena comes for his midday walk, he runs right up to her, tail wagging furiously and ready for his walk — a far cry from the scared, trembling dog I met last July!
Every day when I come home after work, his water bowl is clean and filled, the leash is exactly where it belongs, and Micah is happy as a clam (especially when he's managed some mischief, like shredding the toilet paper or scoring a hunk of Parmesan cheese from the counter). But BSD's care for their clients doesn't stop there. When Micah was not present in the living room as usual, I received a call and email alerting me to the situation and asking me if all was well. I can't imagine
who else — besides family! — would be so concerned about his well-being.
It is terrific to have this peace of mind when I'm away at work. I know that Micah's in excellent hands with Big Sky Dogs, and can't imagine trusting anyone else with my beautiful boy.
